WORLD MUSIC DAY WITH the BIG BAND RTS and NILS VOGRAM
On Tuesday, June 21, starting at 8 pm, in the Great Hall of the Belgrade Youth Center, German jazz musician Nils Vogram, trombone virtuoso, composer, and bandleader, will be a special guest of the RTS Big Band at a concert organized by the Belgrade Youth Center and the RTS Music Production on the occasion of World Music Day.
This talented leader of small ensembles, who is constantly pushing the boundaries of his music, in 2018 recorded the album “Work Smoothly” with the GDR Big Band from Hamburg. All compositions and arrangements are Vogram’s work, and the domestic audience will have the opportunity to hear them in the performance of the great line-up of the RTS Big Band.
About the program which he wrote for the big orchestra, Vogram says: “I listened to a lot of historical recordings of big bands, many of my colleagues and contemporaries write for big bands. Most of that music is incredibly good and the musicians are at a high performing level, but what I often miss is the essence. Music that will win and win over the listener, not only impress him. Melodies that speak for themselves. That’s why I wanted to write new pieces myself, not just dig up some material and make an impressive new arrangement. ”
Although the compositions he wrote for the big band are new and authentic, through them he tells the story of the history of big band music. This concert is only the first in the series planned for this year, as part of the continuation of program-business cooperation between the RTS Music Production and Belgrade Youth Center. Joint cultural mission and high artistic and professional criteria in creating and performing programs, are the main points of reference in the future cooperationbetween these two institutions. For over 70 years, RTS Big Band has been a representative of top artistic achievements in jazz music, with the highest standards. Belgrade Youth Center, as an institution that has been organizing the Belgrade jazz festival, the oldest and internationally the most prestigious Serbian jazz festival, since 1971, is continuously working on promoting jazz music as an art form and supports the Serbian jazz scene. In the coming months RTS Big Band and Belgrade Youth Center will present to audience the exceptional programs in the performance of the most renowned domestic and foreign soloists and composers, who will perform as special guests to the RTS Big Band.
