THE RTS MUSIC PRODUCTION TODAY

Festival in Luka (Italy), 1969. Choir and Symphony Orchestra of Radio-television Belgrade, with conductor Borivoj Simić, perform Krzysztof Penderecki's "Passion for Luka"

Nowadays, the RTS Music production is a modern system that consists of the Symphony Orchestra, the Choir, the Children’s Choir, the Children’s Choir Kolibri, the Folk Orchestra, the Folk Ensemble, and the Big Band.

Their activities include performing and recording symphonic, choral, vocal-instrumental, folk, popular, and jazz music by domestic and foreign composers, with an affinity towards preserving the national music heritage and contemporary works of Serbian artists. They also document permanent recordings and archive them in the Sound Archive of Radio Belgrade. The following activities are also under the jurisdiction of the Music Production: organising concerts in the country and abroad independently, or in collaboration with similar cultural organisations and institutions; performing publicly and recording theatrical music; preserving programmes aimed towards children and youth; cooperating with European and cultural institutions worldwide, as well as with domestic and foreign conductors, performers, composers and arrangers; the production, sale, and publishing of music tracks on sound and image carriers.

The affirmation of national culture is a key feature in the communicative significance of the Music Production ensembles, and it gives exclusivity to the public service program. The ensembles are positioned as strategically significant in the goal of promoting and publicly presenting the national cultural heritage. The transparency of the ensembles’ work, both through media and their continuous presence in concert halls, especially contributes to this affirmation.

For this reason, the work of the RTS Music production, and the work of its ensembles are, nowadays, defined as the key moderators of the musical and cultural life of Serbia and are inextricably linked to the mapping of cultural content throughout the country.
