Children’s Choir Kolibri
RTS Music ProductionThe hummingbird (Kolibri) is the smallest bird in the world. It is delicate, colourful and always on the move, much like a child. Hence, the name Kolibri for a children’s choir, in which children grow and sing… A choir is similar to a school which offers a learning experience in unique subjects, such as the fairy tale, motor skills and speech development, breathing, concentration, expression of thoughts, concept learning, socialisation, self-awareness, friendship nurturing, selflessness, respectfulness, and the understanding of the joy of singing.
The Children’s Choir Kolibri was founded in 1963 as the ensemble with the youngest performers within the Radio and Television of Serbia Music Production. Its founder and longtime conductor was Milica Manojlović.
Kolibri is a unique children’s choir known for its distinctive singing culture, fine interpretation and a highly professional attitude towards musicianship rooted in a profound love for music, as well as for the active reception of music whose message is conveyed to the audience in an enjoyable way. The attitude while singing, the technique of breathing, interpretation, and lyrical understanding (whether of Serbian lyrics or not), are elements put to the use of musical expression.
The choir has held over a hundred concerts across the country and abroad, and has participated in audio dramas, television shows, series and films. It has recorded and released seven audio cassettes, nineteen single and forty-two long-play gramophone records as well as four audio CDs in the edition of PGP-RTB/RTS.
Owing to its exceptional artistic achievements and aesthetic value, the choir has received numerous awards, the most relevant among them being: the Radio Belgrade Award, for its contribution to the development of children’s and youth music; the Golden Beočug Award of the Cultural and Educational Community of Belgrade, for its achievements in the field of science and art; the Award of the Association of Composers, for its contribution to the development of musical creativity; a Letter of Appreciation from the UNICEF; the Zlatna Siringa Award of the Radio-Television of Belgrade, for the greatest annual achievement of the RTB ensemble; the Order of Labor with Silver Wreath; the Days of Mokranjac Award, and the Zmaj Award.
Since March 2012, graduate music pedagogue Ljiljana Ranđelović has enthusiastically been following the path that Milica Manojlović paved back in 1963.
