With numerous novelties, from scenography, through a special ambiance at the opening, to an excellent program, the Novi Sad Jazz Festival presents its 24th edition, which will be held from November 16 to 19 on the “Pera Dobrinović” stage of the Serbian National Theater.
This year’s jazz festival will present a range of intertwined musical genres based on jazz music and some of the most popular bands and world-famous musicians of the regional jazz scene. Modern, classic, unusual, and quality jazz is brought to the stage of the Serbian National Theater by musicians from Serbia, Norway, France, Italy, the Czech Republic, Canada, Austria, Luxembourg, Lithuania, and Switzerland.
The honor of opening the festival this year went to the Big Band of Radio-television of Serbia, who, along with the famous jazz trumpeter Stjepko Guta, will dedicate a concert to Ted Jones, trumpeter, one of the most important composers and arrangers in the history of big band music. It will be a kind of tribute to Jones as an author and to the Thad Jones-Mel Lewis Orchestra, for which he wrote most of his author oeuvre, which he successfully conducted for many years.
At the concert, which will be held on November 16, starting at 8 p.m., a very demanding program will be performed, which, due to its technical complexity, is in the repertoire of only a small number of jazz ensembles. The combination of Stjepko Gut and RTS Big Band leads to a fantastic jazz journey, with original jazz improvisation and musicianship at the highest level.
