Let your best choice for September be the concert of the RTS Symphony Orchestra! This time, the soloist is cellist Dragan Suzuki Đorđević, who will present himself with Edvard Elgar’s “Concerto”. This, as critics call it, an elegiac work was composed after the First World War, at a time when Elgar’s music had already fallen out of fashion for the concert-going public. It was brought back to the concert stage in the 1960s by the famous cellist Jacqueline de Pré, whose performance, later recorded on a compact disc, led to the “Concert” becoming a bestseller in art music. With the conductor Aleksandar Kojić, the concert will also feature the “Aladdin Suite” by Karl Nielsen, which was created based on the music composed for the theater play “Aladdin” for the Royal Theater in Copenhagen in 1919. Already in 1923, Nielsen performed fragments of that music in concert, and the exotic musical motifs, as well as the romantic sound of the orchestra, quickly led him to create a suite, which he did in 1940. The big concert finale will be dedicated to the music of Jan Sibelius. On the program is “Symphony No. 2”, which the composer himself called the confession of his soul.
