The works of one of the greatest symphonists of the 20th century, Dmitri Shostakovich, will be performed at the concert of the RTS Choir and Symphony Orchestra, on December 8, in the Kolarac Concert Hall, starting at 8 p.m. The concert will be opened with one of the most famous compositions of this composer, “Waltz no. 2”, from the Suite for Variety Orchestra, which became very famous thanks to the director Stanley Kubrick, who used it in his film Eyes Wide Shut. Afterward, the Cantata The Execution of Stepan Razin, composed to the libretto by Yevgeniy Yevtushenko, will be performed. After the premiere of this work in 1964, Yevtushenko wrote: “Shostakovich’s reading of my poetry was so precise in intonation and meaning that I felt as if he was inside me when I wrote the poems and composed the music while the verses were being sung.”. In the performance of this cantata, bass Goran Krneta will also perform. The concert will be rounded off by Shostakovich’s last, the Fifteenth Symphony, which was greeted with a standing ovation by the audience at its premiere in 1971. The delighted composer exclaimed, “I have written a ‘wicked symphony'”. Srba Dinić will be the conductor.
