THROUGH THE HISTORY OF RTS MUSIC PRODUCTION

The Music Production was founded in 1963. It stemmed from the Music Editorial Office of Radio Belgrade, which had initiated the establishment of the first ensembles in the period between the two world wars – The National Orchestra (1935), The Symphony Orchestra (1937) and The Choir (1939), which participated live in the programme and were the carriers of musical content.

By multiplying the programme of Radio Belgrade and founding the Television after the Second World War, and also by modernizing the media presentation of music, increasing the need for programmes with musical content, the independence of Music production was a logical process, preceded by the establishment of The Children’s Choir (1947), The Entertainment Orchestra (1948) , The Big Band (1954) and the choir “Kolibri” (1963), ensembles whose impact has left a special mark on various programme content of state media.

In addition to music production for the purpose of Radio and Television programmes, Music Production was, and remains still, the reference programme segment responsible for planning and organizing public presentations of music, at concerts, festivals, and other cultural and social events in the country. The presence of its ensembles in public life, shaping the repertoire policy and active work in shaping the cultural needs of the audience was the area of activity of the director of Music Production. From its founding until this day, prominent composers, conductors, instrumental soloists, well-known artists with professional authority, valued by the professional public, have all found themselves at this place. Contemporary public service policy which the Production belongs to today, focused on management as a modern form of planning, organizing, and managing, has recognized as new age managers people who, in addition to artistic references, also have experience in management. From 2021, on this position is Dragoslav Freddie Stanisavljevic.

Nowadays, the RTS Music Production consists of seven ensembles: the Symphony Orchestra, the Choir, the Children’s Choir, the Children’s Choir Kolibri, the Folk Orchestra, the Folk ensemble and the Big Band. All of the above mentioned ensembles are recognized as active professional concert performers. In this way, they shape the cultural habits of their audience and the audience of the public service.
