The RTS Symphony orchestra and men’s choir close this year’s BEMUS

OCTOBER 25, 2025 │ 20:00 │ KOLARAC ENDOWMENT

The Radio Television of Serbia Symphony orchestra and men’s choir, along with tenor Kwonsoo Jeon and conductor Srboljub Dinić, will close the 57th Belgrade Music Festival. At the concert on October 25, in the Kolarac Concert Hall, starting at 8 p.m., the audience will have the opportunity to hear one of the most monumental works of symphonic literature – “Faust Symphony” by Franz Liszt.

Inspired by the main characters of Goethe’s play, Liszt shows through his work the true magical power of music. For him, “Faust Symphony” was a transcendent meeting of his art with literature and painting. It was also a personal way of overcoming his statement, made only a decade before the “Faust Symphony” was written, that “anything to do with Goethe is dangerous for me to do.” After the premiere, some praised the composition’s dramatic power and innovative structure, while others criticized its length. Conductor Hans von Bülow, who led the orchestra that evening, described the experience as “indescribably painful.” Richard Wagner, in the Weimar audience that evening, said of Bülow: “The conductor seemed to me the maddest of them all. His activity was extraordinary. He had learned the entire score by heart and gave us an unusually precise, intelligent, and energetic performance with an orchestra made up of all but selected German players.”
