RTS FOLK ENSEMBLE
The Radio Television of Serbia Folk Ensemble, the youngest ensemble in RTS Music Production, was founded in 1980 as an ensemble of soloists, accomplished and trained musicians: Božidar Boki Milošević, MA – clarinet, Branimir Djokić – accordion, Aleksandar Šišić – violin, Dane Popovski – drums, Miodrag Djino Maljoković – drums, Miša Blam – double bass, Bora Višnjički – guitar, Živko Simeunović – guitar, Bora Dugić – flute and Blagoje Petrović – clarinet.
With the establishment of the Radio Television of Serbia Folk Ensemble, the editors at the Music Production decided without hesitation that Branimir Djokić would be its artistic director. Branimir Bane Djokić – an established, charismatic harmonica soloist readily accepted this challenge and responsibility. Devoted and dedicated to folk music, he successfully led this ensemble for thirty-five years. During that time, he remained consistent with traditional values, responsibly and carefully choosing his repertoire while respecting all the stylistic characteristics of folk songs and dances that made up the repertoire of the Radio Television of Serbia Folk Ensemble. In turbulent times, when music scene and media space were flooded with other melodies and rhythms, Djokić successfully chose and performed those composed songs that relied on traditional songs. As the artistic director of the RTS Folk Ensemble he carefully selected vocal and instrumental soloists who would “stand” in front of this ensemble of exceptional performance quality and unique musical energy.
The repertoire of the Radio Television of Serbia Folk Ensemble is very diverse – from traditional to contemporary, from original songs, “antique”, “play” and virtuoso, “concert” rounds, city songs and romances, selected compositions in the folk spirit to songs created in time the current one. And that’s not all, because the program requirements of the Radio Television of Serbia present the musicians of this ensemble with new repertoire challenges and “excursions” into other musical genres.
