The three biggest big bands from the region on October 3rd in the MTS hall
As part of the “Jumbo Big Band” project, three big bands will share the stage in the MTS hall – the Croatian Radiotelevision Jazz Orchestra, the Slovenian Radio and Television Big Band, and the Radio Television of Serbia Big Band with conductor Sigi Feigl. That concert will be held on October 3rd, starting at 8 p.m.
Following the historic meeting of the Count Basie Orchestra and the Duke Ellington’s Orchestra in the early 1960s, in 1989, was held the first “Jumbo Big Band” meeting. For the first time in history, there were three most influential big bands of the region – Jazz Orchestra of Radio-television Belgrade, Jazz Orchestra of Radio-television Ljubljana, and Dance Orchestra of Radio-television Zagreb, interpreting pieces written primarily for the occasion. After great success in all three cities where the concerts were performed (Belgrade, Zagreb, Ljubljana), the breakup of the former joint country postponed the new “jumbo” meeting for almost three decades. Years of planning and agreement by colleagues from all three ensembles about a joint project again were realized in 2018 at the Novi Sad Jazz Festival. That non-series musical event and touching friendly meeting was also a kind of introduction to this year’s “Jumbo Big Band” project, which will start with a concert in Belgrade, followed by a concert on October 5th in Zagreb and October 7th in Ljubljana.
In the MTS hall, on October 3rd, the audience is waiting for a new repertoire prepared by the leading arrangers from all three ensembles, who will present the power and beauty of the big band sound, but also the diversity and exceptional skill of top jazz musicians, members of these prestigious orchestras from the region.
