AN EVENING WITH VASILIJE MOKRANJAC WITHIN THE “GREAT ANNIVERSARIES” SERIES
The first concert of the RTS Symphony Orchestra in the regular season 2019/2020, falls into the “Great Anniversaries” series. It is dedicated to one of the most important creators of Serbian music, composer Vasilije Mokranjac (1923-1984), an artist of specific inner energy, who throughout his career has been equally attached to symphonic and piano sound.
The concert to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the death of the artist will begin with a “Concert Overture”, the piece that successfully combined a wide range of moods, from intimate lyric sentiment to intense drama. A “Poem for Piano and Orchestra” will follow, performed by pianist Ratimir Martinovic as a soloist. This piece, one of the highlights of Mokranjac’s oeuvre, is dedicated to the great pianist from the older generation, Dusan Trbojevic, an artist to whom Mokranjac dedicated several of his compositions.
The “Fifth Symphony” is also on the program on the same evening, and is best described by the composer’s words: “Experience of the light and the dark inside us and around us, the attempt to jump from the real to the astral, occasionally howling in silence, the awareness that man is, in the words of a poet, distant from the cosmos only by his skin, perhaps this is the concept and the basis of the dramatic entanglement of my Fifth Symphony.” Mokranjac dedicated this piece to conductor Mladen Jagust.
The “Fifth Symphony” will be performed at the concert of the RTS Symphony Orchestra in honor of maestro Mladen Jagust’s 95th birthday.
The concert from the “Great Anniversaries” series, dedicated to Vasilije Mokranjac, will be conducted by maestro Bojan Sudjic, and will be held on October 31, in the Great Hall of the Kolarac Endowment, starting at 8 pm.
