VUK OVASKAINEN, WINNER OF THE COMPETIOTION “YOUNG AND SUCCESSFUL”, SOLOIST AT THE CONCERT OF RTS SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
The final October concert of the RTS Symphony Orchestra will feature music composed by Dmitry Shostakovich (1906-1975), one of the most respectable composers of the 20th century, whose life and creative path ran parallel with vast historical disruptions and radical transformation of Soviet Russia society. The audience will have the opportunity of hearing one of the most famous concerts from the opus of this eminent symphonist – “Cello Concerto, No. 2“, with the performance also presenting the winner of this year’s Young and Successful competition organized by RTS Music Production, cellist Vuk Ovaskainenas, as a soloist. Just like his first “Concerto”, Shostakovich wrote this piece for the famous cellist Mstislav Rostropovich, and he was the one who performed it at the premiere on the 25th of September 1966, on Shostakovich’s 60th birthday. It was conducted by Yevgeny Mravinsky. The concert was received with delight by the audience, with international triumph following shortly thereafter, quickly positioning this work as one of the most significant pieces from the cello literature.
Shostakovich’s “First Symphony”, a product of the creator’s youthful inspiration, is on the program for the same night, The composition affirms the talent of a young creator in the best possible way, but more importantly, it indicates towards complete mastery of basic rules of the symphonic form.
The audience will have the pleasure of listening to Dmitry Shostakovich’s music at the concert which will be held in the Great Hall of Kolarac Endowment, on November 23rd, at 8 pm. Bojan Sudjic will be the conductor.
