THE YOUNG AND SUCCESSFUL AT THE NEW CONCERT FROM THE “PREMIERS” CYCLE
At the new concert from the “Premiers” cycle, the RTS Symphony Orchestra will be presenting two winners from the “Young and Successful” competition organized by RTS Music Production. The violinist Luka Faulisi will be appearing as a soloist in the performance of one of the most notable pieces from Ernest Chausson’s opus – Poeme, written at the request from prominent violinist and composer Eugène Ysaÿe. We will also have the chance to hear, from the same performer, the Concerto fantasia for the Golden Cockerel opera theme composed by Efrem Zimbalist. In creating this piece, the composer was inspired by Russian composer Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s opera of the same name and this attractive composition can often be found on the repertoire of great violinists.
Bass player Dušan Kostić will introduce himself through Giovanni Bottesini’s “Double Bass Concerto No.2”, one of the most famous concerto pieces of musical literature composed for this instrument. Bottesini, called the “Double bass Paganini” by his contemporaries, was a great performer himself, promoting the bass playing technique notably through writing pieces for his own instrument.
The composition “De Rerum Natura” by Jug Marković will also be performed at the concert. This piece was chosen at the “Competition for composers” organized by RTS Music Production, and it was inspired by Roman poet Lucretius’ (99 – 55 BC) writings by the same name. “I am not trying to musically “paint” Lucretius’ words in my music nor present them nonverbally to the listener. For me they represent an intimate starting point and a generator of musical ideas” Marković said about his creation.
Johannes Brahms’ “Tragic Overture” will be performed at the end of the concert. Even though one could think that this was a program piece dedicated to a specific event, judging by its name, the composer had chosen the word “tragic” wanting to signify the music’s character, in full opposition of the ceremonial “Academic Festival Overture” which he had written in the same year.
The concert will be held on the 5th of December, at the Great Hall of the Ilija M. Kolarac Endowment, at 8 pm. It will be conducted by Olivera Sekulić Barac.
